Simone teaches most of her classes in such a way that they are suitable for both beginners as well as intermediate level mosaicists. She provides verbal instruction, as well as demonstrations for each phase of the mosaic process, followed by individual coaching for each participant while they are working on their project. Classes are kept small to accommodate this individualized attention and allow individuals to work at their respective experience levels.
Teaching workshops is one of Simone’s favorite things to do! She teaches out of her home studio, guest teaches through other art studios, has been teaching through Carolina Coastal University’s OLLI program since 2013, and will travel to teach groups in their homes or other venues providing there is sufficient workspace.
Each workshop utilizes high quality materials, which are included in the workshop fee (unless otherwise noted). Simone will provide the necessary tools for completing each project; though participants are welcome to bring their own favorite tools or embellishments for decorating their mosaic.
Here are a few of the mosaic workshops offered by Studio Esquibel.

Simone will teach you the step by step process using demonstrations and individual coaching as you work on your project, from design to grout.
Smalti is a special type of glass that is poured into rounds and then hand cut into smaller pieces to be used by the mosaic artist.
Participants will learn the basics for working with this material, creating an 8”x 8” framed mosaic. Hanging hardware will be provided for displaying your mosaic.
Design and mosaic your own 21" (h) x 15" (d) patio table with iron legs. Option of square or round is generally available. This is sure to be a nice addition to your patio, bedside, or other living area. Create your own design for the tabletop to mosaic.
If you're shy on ideas, not to worry, Simone will have templates available to work

If you're shy on ideas, not to worry, Simone will have templates available to work from or spark your creativity. Stained glass or glass tiles are the usual tesserae that will be used for this project.
Each participant will create a set of earrings, a pendent and a bracelet, similar to those pictured. If discussed with Simone ahead of time, this can be modified to be any combination of these, ie. all earrings; two sets of earrings and a pendent;... you get the idea.
Tiny ceramic tiles are used, and participants can choose to grout their jewelry or use a resin.
A different twist on mosaics. Tempered glass and acrylic paint are used to create original, one of a kind, mosaics.
Each participant will make 4, 4”x 4” mosaics. Try different styles, choose a theme, explore your creativity!
Never painted before?...don’t let that scare you off, as prior painting experience is not a prerequisite.

There are different mesh options out there. You will try a couple of them out in this two day workshop, creating your own decorative pavers (or perhaps river rock if available). This workshop is suitable for beginner and intermediate levels; and sure to be fun whether you just want the experience of mosaicing your own outdoor paver, or want to learn the skills of using mesh for your future projects.

This project is particularly nice as one gets to delve deeper into the mosaic process. With a larger surface to work on, you will have a more in-depth mosaic experience; including learning more about andamento (the flow and direction of the tesserae in a mosaic), and gain more practice with cutting and placement. This class is appropriate for beginners, and intermediate level can further enhance their skills.
In this workshop you will mosaic a 15” x 15” square mirror (other shape options are available as well if discussed ahead of time). Simone will provide 2-3 design options which you are free to copy or modify, or create your own design.

We will use stained glass for this project unless otherwise discussed, which makes for a nice polished and quality look. Participants are also free to bring their own beads, stones, shells, or other objects to embellish their mirror. If you have specific design ideas you would like to explore, please share those ahead of time so Simone may modify the class accordingly to meet your needs.
