“Bubbles” is 26 x 18 and made with Mexican smalti, stained glass, glass mosaic tiles, beads, abalone shell, cabochon, millefiori, and polished and rough cut stones.
Yes, there is a manatee right smack in the middle. You can easily feel the relaxed and beautiful presence of this beautiful mammal. But look closer! This mosaic has many hidden, and not so hidden creatures throughout. What do you see? A lot goes on in the deep blue waters where the manatees and their friends reside.
The two gemstones used for the manatee’s tail were hand cut and polished by John F. Norris, of Taos, New Mexico. Part of the “Smalti in the Sky” series.
